Windows Phone 8.1 devices keep prompting for sign in to the Company Portal

I have been working on another mobility project the last couple of months. this project started as a hybrid SCCM/Intune project using “old” SCC 2012 R2 platform, a couple of weeks ago we migrated the platform to the latest service pack in order to get all of the new hybrid mobile features in place. The project have support for Android, iOS and Windows phones 8.1 devices. In the beginning the company portal was deployed to the Windows Phones using the Windows Phone trial certificate (not supported, but it works). That part worked as expected for many months, but using the [...]

Bluestripe acquired by Microsoft

It was with great excitement that I read that Microsoft has acquired Bluestripe . I have been working with their product Factfinder for a while now and is impressed with it’s features. The acquisition means even better integration and features for a solution that is already great and right now provide immense value to any SCOM and SCSM solution, which is why we always recommend our customers to consider Factfinder as part of their System Center implementation. Without Bluestripe’s product Factfinder, mapping services and creating distributed applications in SCOM, is typically a manual task and requires you to collect information [...]

Windows Azure Pack / SMA: How to fix when some VM Clouds Automation Triggers does not work

In WAP VM Clouds provider, we are able to set trigger on different actions.   Yesterday, in a new test environment, I had a problem that some of them would not trigger. When I tested Subscription trigger, it worked fine, but none of the others worked.   Luckily I asked my MVP network for help, and fellow CDM MVP Stan showed me the path to the fix! (Check his blog here: http://www.systemcentercentral.com/author/slavizh/) He said some actions are handled directly by WAP, and some are handled by SPF.   The SMA Web service has to use a valid certificate that is [...]

Working with managed applications within Configuration Manager 2012 R2 SP1

First, let’s define a managed application. In essence it’s a special policy that enable you to control settings in the application or browser like data encryption, can the user save the document as a new file etc. To successfully deploy a managed application you need to mix the application deployment with an application management policy. Configuration Manager will automatically discover if the application can be managed and will show an additional page in the wizard when you create the deployment. It’s worth noting that not all applications can be managed. They have to have the Intune App SDK built-in or [...]

Windows Mobile Phone 8.1 support gone after upgrading to Configuration Manager 2012 R2 SP1

One of the many changes in the newly released SP1 is support for Windows Phone 8.1 After the upgrade only there will only be support for Windows Phone 8.0. Navigate to the Administration workspace, select Cloud Services, right click your Intune connector, Configure Platforms, Windows Phone. Notice that Windows Phone 8.1 is not enabled.   In our environment we only support Windows Phone 8.1 and we do not deploy any custom signed Windows Phone LOB applications. Enable Windows Phone 8.1 support and click OK. Wait until the next synchronization and you will have Windows Phone 8.1 support back. Another “setting” [...]

Azure Automation: Using Azure Scheduler to trigger a runbook via Runbook Webhooks

One of the great new features of Azure Automation is the Web hooks, which can be added to runbooks. A web hook is a way for an external system to trigger the runbook with specific input values. You can read more about how to trigger web hooks here: http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/automation-webhooks/   This article describes how easy it is to use the Azure Scheduler to actually trigger the runbook. There is already a scheduler built in, but there can be reasons that one would use Azure Scheduler instead   Azure Automation scheduler is not very advanced so far, it can only trigger [...]

Upgrade to System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager SP1

Below is the guide that I normally use for a service pack upgrade in a single primary site environment. I will not go into the story about what files you should download as that is already explained by Jason Sandys here - http://blog.configmgrftw.com/service-pack-madness/  Planning and Testing Back up the SQL Server database and restore a copy of the database on an instance that is not hosting the production database. Perform a test upgrade of the database to SP1. The test upgrade must be performed on the database copy. Download the ConfigMgr SP1 prerequisite files. Disable management point replicas if they [...]

Create Windows 10 Enterprise ISO from Professional media

Microsoft has released build 10041 of Windows 10 Technical preview, but again there is only an ISO for the Professional edition. The workaroundwell lucky for us, there is a way around this. It is possible to utilize DISM to change editions of Windows, so by running a few commands we can upgrade the install.wim from Pro to Enterprise. To do this you need a computer with Windows 10 installed, as we need the latest version of DISM. Simply install Windows 10 Pro using the latest release on a physical or virtual computer.Mount the Windows 10 Pro ISO, and copy the content to [...]

Wsyncmgr.log: The request failed with HTTP status 503

Kent have blogged about WSUS maintenance before – its important so that we don’t hit problems like the one I’m about to share with you, so make sure you do something about it – Link. “The request failed with HTTP status 503: Status Unavailable” in this case the source is a stored procedure running (Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.ApiRemoting.ExecuteSPGetUpdatesThatSupersedeUpdate). The wsyncmgr.log snippet above is an example of the WSUS sync failing because the IIS Application Pool had stopped. The reason for it stopping is that the amount of private memory allowed to the application pool had hit the roof, and when that happens the [...]

Help shape the future of Microsoft Automation/Orchestrator!

The Microsoft engineering team that creates Azure Automation, Service Management Automation, and System Center Orchestrator is asking for us customers to help them shape the future of Automation. Today we run most automation on premise, but in the future this might be a cloud service like Office 365. It all depends on the inputs from us! You can give your input by filling this survey with questions about moving to a cloud service: https://microsoft.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_b3pBfQD39MLGiHP
