Been up really early due to a 9 hours time zone change. Full with energy I started the day with a short run on the Strip. After Breakfast I went to the registration got my badge, a fancy new bag with a lot of “goodies” in it.
For me Monday was SQL day. First session on performance tips and tricks then two sessions with SQL Reporting Services in available with Config Mgr. R2. Based on the information from the session I have made my top 5 list of reasons why you should migrate your reports to SRS:
- Performance
- Report caching
- Report snapshots
- Run reports from a SQL replica – no more “hurting” the production server
- Configure timeout values
- User friendliness
- Branding reports with custom logos
- Subscribe to reports
- Export reports to different file formats
- Creating reports
- Use SQL Report builder to build reports. End users can build their own custom reports with a little amount of training
- Report models
- BIDS
- It’s easy 🙂
- Security
- Role based access permissions
- Standard reporting tool
- Used in other applications like Operation Manager, SharePoint etc.
Since it was Monday I decided to end the first day with two different parties 🙂 First the conference Welcome party and secondly a party for Danish delegates at Hotel Palazzo. I might have started the day loaded with energy but “boy” now I can’t seem to find any legal drug strong enough to keep me awake.
Lessons learned on the first day. Those of you who have Config Mgr. R2 installed without SRS – Install it ASAP. It’s really not that complicated and you will be gladly surprised once you have Demystified the SQL Reporting Service 🙂
