ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 announced @TechEd 2012

System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP1

Just finished my first session @TechEd 2012 in Orlando with Wally Mead and Mark Florida. During the session they revealed some of the upcoming features in ConfigMgr 2012 SP1.

There will be support for new platforms like:

  • Windows 8
  • Windows 8 tablet – Intel SoC tablets support
  • Mac OS X
  • Linux and Unix

Application changes

  • Support Metro style applications and Deep link applications
  • Network cost support, which is intelligence support for detecting and controlling/blocking traffic from connections like 3G and 4G networks

Hierarchy changes

  • You can add a new CAS to an existing stand-alone primary site
  • Changes in SQL replication
  • E-mail support for all in console alerts

Software Updates

  • Fallback support to Windows Update site for content
  • Endpoint Protection definition updates applied 3 times pr. site
  • Real-time administrative actions from the console

Changes in Settings Management

  • User Profile and Data Management
  • Client Side Caching
  • Roaming User Profiles
  • Folder Redirection

Changes in OSD

  • TPM and PIN support
  • Used Space BitLocker support

Prestage media support for additional content types

  • Support for WIM, Applications, Drivers, Package/Programs

PowerShell support

  • New PowerShell Provider
  • The scope is to support what-ever feature exposed in the Admin Console

    You didn’t mention the added support for app-v 5.0 beta that gets added with sp1. I was in several sessions at teched where this was discussed. I may have missed it but am still unclear if app-v 5.0 in Sccm 2012 will support fully app-v streaming where Sccm 2007 app-v 4.6 really didn’t. I would appreciate any info on that subject. I plan to review some of the teched session info again as soon as I get the chance.
