How to create a context menu for SMS Client Center in the Configuration Manager 2007 console

If you have ever worked with Configuration Manager 2007 you properly know about the great freeware tool called SMS Client Center created by Roger Zander. The latest version of SMS Client Center can be downloaded from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/smsclictr/files/SCCM%20Client%20Center/ You install the tool locally on your computer and it does not require the installation of the Configuration Manager console. You can connect to one Configuration Manager client at a time by typing the dns name or ip address of the client. But you can actually launch the tool from within the Configuration Manager console without the need to manually typing in [...]

The complete Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 installation and configuration guide

Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 (FEP 2010) allows you to consolidate desktop security and management in a single solution, because it is built on System Center Configuration Manager 2007. That means in many cases you can use your existing client management infrastructure to deploy and manage your endpoint protection. My colleague Kent Agerlund and I have made a Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 installation and configuration guide for Configuration Manager 2007 guide which will give you all the information you need to implement FEP 2010 into your existing Configuration Manager 2007 environment. The guide can be downloaded here:

Migrating Bitlocker enabled machines to another domain

In the SCCM Admins guide to preparing your environment for Bitlocker Drive Encryption post series, I walked you through how to prepare your environment for Bitlocker in order to enable the backup of the Bitlocker recovery password and the TPM owner password hash, to Active Directory. But what will happen if: 1. You join a stand-alone machine which already had Bitlocker enabled before the domain-join 2. You unjoin a Bitlocker enabled machine from one domain and join it to another domain, which could be a domain in the same forest or another forest. 3. You migrate the computer account of [...]

Hey–why does it sometimes take so long to delete a virtual machine from the Hyper-V console?

You may have noticed that it sometimes take quite some time to delete a virtual machine from within the Hyper-V console. It can take hours in some cases. This happens if the virtual machine has snapshots and it is by design. What actually happens when you delete the virtual machine is that the snapshot(s) is being merge into the VHD file and then the virtual machine is deleted from the Hyper-V console. I have created a virtual machine and installed Windows Server 2008 R2. It is just a basic install. After the install I created a snapshot while the virtual [...]

Hey, what is Custom Client Settings in Configuration Manager 2012!?

In Configuration Manager 2007 most of the client agents settings you can configure are site wide except for a few such as Policy Polling interval and restart settings. These two can be configure on a collection basis – but that is it. But here comes Configuration Manager 2012 to the rescue – You can now create Custom Client Settings and assign them to a collection. The Default Client Agent Settings are applied across the network and are site wide in nature.   You simply select the settings you want in your “custom settings object” by ticking the checkbox next to [...]
